Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition GPUs are selling at $3,695 on Newegg, nearly double the $1,999 MSRP.
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition GPU is now priced at $3695 US at Newegg, nearly double the original MSRP of $1999 and a $195 increase from the $3499 price point reported just 24 hours prior. This escalation follows reports that RTX 5090 GPUs were expected to reach $5000 US due to ongoing memory shortages affecting both NVIDIA and AMD consumer and data center product lines. While data center demand is the primary driver of these shortages, consumer GPUs—which have had no role in the current crisis—are being caught in the fallout, leaving gamers who planned to upgrade their systems in 2026 in a difficult position.
The pricing situation reflects a broader market squeeze. A few months ago, several GeForce RTX 5090 models were available at MSRP around $2000 US, but all of those inventory slots are now "Out of Stock." Currently available units are priced above $3000 US, with some approaching $5000 US. Other models have become the norm at $4500–$4800 US, with the exception of the ASUS Dhahab RTX 5090, which retains its pre-shortage price of $6990 due to its limited nature and the use of actual gold worth almost $700 US.
Availability varies across retailers. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition is not listed on the official NVIDIA Store, though NVIDIA confirmed the listing status is based on availability, which fluctuates due to the limited nature of the FE design. Most RTX 5090s listed at Newegg are being shipped from China, suggesting local stock is largely depleted. BestBuy has the FE model out of stock, Walmart lists the same card for $3149 US, and Microcenter appears to be the only retailer still offering MSRP RTX 5090 models—though these are available only for in-stock pickups.
