Artificial intelligence has created a new category of technology companies focused on building the systems that allow organizations to put AI into practice. While AI applications have captured much of the public attention, a significant portion of the market focuses on the infrastructure required to help businesses deploy these technologies at scale.

SambaNova is competing in this space. The company recently completed the first close of a $1 billion financing round at an $11 billion valuation, signaling continued investor interest in companies building the foundation for enterprise AI adoption. The round was led by General Atlantic, with participation from BlackRock, Intel Capital, and T. Rowe Price Associates.

Founded in 2017, SambaNova develops AI computing systems that help organizations deploy and manage artificial intelligence workloads. The company combines specialized hardware and software designed for enterprise environments where performance, security, and control over data are critical considerations. Its platform is designed to help organizations run AI models within their own environments, giving businesses greater control over how these systems are deployed. The company has attracted enterprise customers including JPMorgan Chase, which selected SambaNova's technology for AI inference applications.

SambaNova's growth reflects a broader market shift as businesses move from exploring AI capabilities to integrating them into operations. Financial services, healthcare, government, and large enterprises are exploring AI solutions for automation, analytics, research, and operational efficiency. As more organizations look to incorporate AI into their workflows, companies providing the underlying systems needed for adoption are becoming an increasingly important part of the technology ecosystem.

SambaNova was founded by Rodrigo Liang, Kunle Olukotun, and Christopher Ré, bringing together experience across enterprise technology, computer science, and artificial intelligence research. Kunle Olukotun, a Stanford University computer scientist, is recognized as a pioneer of multicore processor design and received the ACM-IEEE CS Eckert-Mauchly Award for his contributions to computer architecture. Before co-founding SambaNova, Olukotun co-founded Afara WebSystems, a semiconductor company focused on high-performance processor technology that was later acquired by Sun Microsystems.

SambaNova's $11 billion valuation reflects investor expectations that enterprise demand for AI systems will continue expanding. With a founding team combining decades of computing expertise, a billion-dollar financing round, and the backing of leading institutional investors, SambaNova is positioning itself among the companies helping define the next era of enterprise technology.
