Kazakhstan has signed accords with startup Firebird Inc. on computing projects involving Nvidia Corp., marking a significant investment commitment of up to $10 billion as the Central Asian energy producer positions itself as an artificial intelligence hub. According to Kazakhstan's AI and digital development ministry announced on Monday, the pacts include a strategic cooperation agreement on developing AI infrastructure and terms for a planned large-scale project known as Data Center Valley in the country's northeast.

The Data Center Valley project envisions $5 billion in investments during phase one, with $1 billion provided by state-run Kazakhtelecom. The 125 megawatt facility is planned to commence commercial operations in 2027. The timing of the second phase and the estimated $5 billion in additional investments will be determined later, according to the statement.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov articulated the overarching goal: to create a platform for hosting global digital infrastructure. Nvidia is supporting Firebird with the design of the project and providing GPUs and other technology. Kazakhstan is seeking to leverage its abundance of land, low-cost energy, and strategic position to establish itself as a key Eurasian digital hub.
