Nvidia has announced plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, forming a major partnership between the two leading artificial intelligence companies, according to a recent report by Reuters. Under the agreement, Nvidia will initially invest $10 billion in OpenAI for non-voting shares once the deal is finalised. The deal will see Nvidia take a financial stake in OpenAI while supplying it with advanced data center chips.

The partnership establishes a circular relationship whereby OpenAI will use the funds to purchase Nvidia's chips, creating an arrangement that strengthens both companies' positions in the competitive AI market, states the report. The companies aim to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems, with the first deliveries expected in late 2026.

The partnership comes as OpenAI, recently valued at $500 billion, seeks to secure the massive computing power needed to maintain its leadership in AI development. For Nvidia, the deal provides a strategic stake in one of its most important customers amid growing competition in the AI chip market.

The scale of the deal may attract antitrust scrutiny, particularly as regulators have previously shown interest in the dominance of major AI players, suggests the Reuters report. The agreement follows other recent industry partnerships, including Microsoft's ongoing investments in OpenAI and Nvidia's collaborations with Intel and other chip manufacturers.
