Hawesville will play a significant role in the artificial intelligence economy following TeraWulf's announcement of a 20-year lease with AI company Anthropic at its Justified Data campus in Hancock County. The agreement, valued at approximately $19 billion in contracted revenue over its term, is designed to support a large-scale data center campus with 401 megawatts of critical IT load. According to TeraWulf, the project will roll out in phases, with initial capacity expected in the second half of 2027 and full buildout by early 2028.

The agreement represents a long-term commitment from Anthropic, one of the world's leading AI firms, to Western Kentucky.

TeraWulf also announced plans to sell its 50.1% ownership interest in a separate Texas joint venture, freeing up capital for projects it directly owns, including its Kentucky operations. The company stated that the Hawesville lease strengthens its long-term outlook and positions Kentucky as a significant hub for the growing AI infrastructure industry.

The Hawesville facility has recent roots in industrial ownership. Century Aluminum Co. completed the sale of its Hawesville property at 1627 State Route 3543 to Justified DataPower LLC, an affiliate of TeraWulf Inc., on February 2. The transaction included $200 million in cash and a 6.8% non-dilutive minority equity stake in Raylan Data Holdings LLC, the development entity.
